PHRYGIA. Hierapolis. Augustus, 27 BC-14 AD. (Bronzed lead, 18 mm, 5.02 g, 11 h), struck under Matron (or Mation) Apolloniou, AD 5 (?). ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. ΜΑΤΡΩΝ ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ Double axe with long handle on basis, with serpent coiled around and surmounted by radiate head, looking right. RPC 2958A. Extremely Rare. The third known example. Well Struck with a pleasing portrait of Augustus. Obverse slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.
